I was a camp counselor at Camp Gather and I worked with children with special needs. The opportunity to connect with these children, and be a friend was an experience I wouldn't trade for the world.
What I wish was different
I only wish that it went on longer!

It's going to be hard to get used to things at first, but stick with it, and you will be rewarded.

I loved working with the children, that’s the ultimate reason I do it! Making a difference in their lives is worth while.

Better communication between staff and management

DO NOT apply if you aren’t doing it for the kids! this is very much a TEAM position. one cancer, the entire Summer can go rotten.

I wish we would how had more guards so I could request off.

I advise becoming close to your co-workers it makes teamwork so much easier.

What I liked
I loved my coworkers, and the kids we worked with were amazing. We had so many beautiful experiences together as a team and I grew so much from this experience.
What I wish was different
I wish we had received better training before starting. There were a lot of moments where I felt overwhelmed and unprepared.
Advice
Work with kids, or like I did, with kids with disabilities. It is challenging, beautiful, and you will learn so many things about yourself.
