I learned a lot more about policing that I do and would in classes.
What I wish was different
I wish I was able to spend more time in the internship, I was only able to participate for 2-3 months.
Advice
You have to be involved and take a step forward in order to get signed up for ride alongs. You also need to ask lots of questions to the Troopers, they loved answering them.

What I liked
I liked being able to ride along with different troopers and see how each one operates just slightly differently while also tying in all of their protocols and training.
What I wish was different

Advice
Be willing to learn and ask lots of questions if you do not understand something.

What I liked
It was great being able to see what a State Trooper’s day to day job duties are. I liked how much they are able to do and how no two days are the same.

Intern
June - August 2018 • Sellersburg, IN
What I liked
Actual first hand experience in the field I am studying to join. I saw every aspect of each shift I was on, and was not restricted from partaking in any activities.
What I wish was different
Nothing, my biggest issue was completing the 20 hours a week on top of my full time job.
Advice
Be professional, but also make connections with the Troopers if you can. They are people in the position you want to join and will be the very best resource you can find to answer questions you may not want to ask a potential supervisor.
