Assistant Music Editor

June - August 2019 • Los Angeles, CA

What I liked

I loved getting real world experience--and it led to a job!

What I wish was different

I wish my employer had had more work for me while I was there--I happened to arrive during a pretty quiet time of year. On the other hand, it allowed for more time for me to get thoroughly trained.q

Advice

Dream big, go out and find an internship doing what you want, where you want. Make it happen.

giving lessons to kids who play softball

May - August 2019 • Kingsburg, CA

What I liked

I liked interacting with the community and with little kids because I will one day become a teacher so the experience with helping kids grow their mindset and athletic ability was a good experience for me.

What I wish was different

I wish I had my own facility so that way it was more accessible rather than specific set times.

Advice

Do not be afraid to interact with kids as early as possible in the process. These kids value what you have to say and are learning by every move you make. Also be organized with your scheduling to make it easier in the end for time management and last minute additions or cancellations.

Accountant

January - June 2019 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I loved my job. It required me to put all my mathematical skills to work.

What I wish was different

I wish my boss had been better. She had no sense of boundaries and all of my overtime work was unpaid but mandatory, which there was a lot of. She would always ask me to work on my days off and overtime on my work days but I wasn't allowed to ask for payment for that extra time and if I refused to give unpaid labor they would threaten to lay me off.

Advice

Do not let your bosses take advantage of you. Set your hours and pay ahead of time and make sure there is a clear understanding about where you stand on working overtime and make sure that under any circumstances you do not agree to any amount of unpaid labor.

Care Giver

August - November 2019 • Mason, WV

What I liked

I love working with people and enjoy the elderly. I appreciate the experiences of their lives that they lived through and things they have gotten to do or places they have seen....and I get the privilege to listen to those stories... truly a blessing!

What I wish was different

I always wish for more time with them, but that is not always the case when they are terminal.

Advice

Every time I experience the loss of a client, whether I knew them a few months or a few years, I always remember that life is short whether someone lives to be 30, 50, 70 or 100... Time goes fast and we need to take the time to remember the important matters in our lives and what we need to be doing that is actually important instead of focusing on trivial things! Make a difference! Be there! Be present!
