What I liked

I liked the freedom of working by myself doing things I am good at. I liked the satisfaction of knowing I had done a good job. I also liked that when I was done, I was done, and it wasn't the kind of job that a nebulous large employer could require me to put in more hours on.

What I wish was different

I wish I had been able to negotiate my wages more – I got a lot of work but because I was working somewhat under the radar, I was not being paid minimum wage. Also I wish I hadn't done so much work out in the summer sun.

Advice

Be firm about setting expectations before the job begins – once you've set a precedent while working it's pretty much over.

Nanny

June - August 2018 • Nashville, TN

What I liked

I liked the opportunity to be doing different things every day, and getting to know the city of Nashville a little bit better.

What I wish was different

I do prefer working with people my age and older, but when you’re a nanny working with kids is just part of the job!

Advice

I would say that you can never expect what each day will bring, and it’s always important to be prepared with a backup plan and be good with communication.
