Ideal Contracting

Project Intern

May 2021 • Detroit, MI

What I liked

Everyone is so friendly and willing to help you learn. I always learned something new everyday by going out and getting experience in the field, as well as handling things on the office side such as updating excel sheets, meetings, submittals and RFI's.

What I wish was different

Nothing!

Advice

Network with as many people as you can! This is a great company to get your start and spread your wings and become the best you can be. Everyone here wants to see you grow, and get better everyday.

Safety Intern

March 2017 • Detroit, MI

What I liked

I like how involved the experience was. It was not your typical internship where you are a paper pusher. You are out on the job gaining real life experience. I was able to see many different sides of the construction industry in ways that bettered my profession. Everyone was willing to help you out and teach you what they know. Never felt out of place and was constantly being challenged and learning new things.

What I wish was different

I wish it was a little more structured site wise. I bounced around a lot between sites which was good because of all the different experiences and jobs, but it was a lot of here and there. Now i am at one site for the most part and it is a lot better.

Advice

Get out there with the workers and get involved. The on the job experience is where you learn the best and it is how you build relationships with your employees. Never be afraid to ask questions, someone will always have an answer for you. Building relationships is how you gain respect in the safety industry and it has to go both ways with the employees.

What I liked

They exposed me to lots of experience and many different job sites. I was able to see many different sides to construction and was able to learn many new things.

What I wish was different

I do not think i would change anything. The only difficult thing i experienced was traveling and managing all the different job sites I worked at.

Advice

Be open and eager to learn. Every person you meet has something to teach you. Whether it is through safety, or life advice, everyone you meet has something new to teach you.
