Landscape Assistant

What I liked

Flexibility in schedule when I needed time off. One learns life skills for their future house / lawn care in the days to come. Great facilities "Grounds Dept." team! You feel like you're part of a family. I enjoyed making friendships.

What I wish was different

Better pay for the required tasks at hand. It is very demanding of one's body. More hours available to work throughout the day. It is either from 6:00am - 2:30pm or 7:00am to 3:30pm, depending on the time of year one is employed.

What I liked

I loved working with the kids and giving them tours of the museum. It was so fun to teach them about Idaho’s Natural History!

What I wish was different

I wish the internship could have been closer related to my future field of art education.

Advice

Always be patient with kids. Biology says kids don’t sit still and be quiet for very long. This is a fact that needs to be accepted, not resisted. Do what you can to help kids learn, and make sure they respect you. However, don’t set unrealistic expectations.

Students should always apply to positions that interest them/offer experience in their desired career field because if they don’t get the job then they learn more about what traits are desirable for those positions and if they do get the job they will have an amazing opportunity to live life in their dream job and start to create a network that will be so valuable later on.

Student Ambassador

What I liked

I was working in the office I am in during the school year so it was incredibly rewarding to be able to work with prospective students during the summer. I love working in a University setting and having students close to my age interested in my home is even better!

What I wish was different

The days are long and tours can be hot, there isn't much I would change just the weather a bit cooler. Honestly, no complaints from me!

Be on top of communication to let the students know just how much you care about them!
