Process Engineer Intern

May - August 2023 • Westlake, OH

What I liked

A large company environment that provided numerous opportunities for social networking and experience. I met lots of new people who helped me grow personally and professionally. I learned new software and how I can help others with that software through projects and personal experiences. Overall, the company embraced flexibility and friendliness more than any other work environment I have worked in.

What I wish was different

Some of my fellow interns had trouble with communication between their managers. My direct manager/mentor was very attentive and always kept me up to date, but I sometimes had trouble getting through to communicate on project details to speed the process along with higher ups in the organization. Not necessarily their fault, everyone in the organization is usually very busy and that workflow can make meeting times difficult.

Advice

Again, communication is the most important thing at a large company such as Hyland. Keeping up to date with managers and mentors helps projects stay on track and functional. Asking questions helps to withdraw more details in a way that can assist project development. Keeping the project together requires all of the participating members to stay on the same page.

Human Resources Intern

June - August 2021 • Westlake, OH

What I liked

Hyland is all about working in teams, which I personally enjoyed. There are also spaces and opportunities to work independently as well. The spirit and mentality of the company really is community-oriented. It was great to be surrounded by supportive and talented employees that often stopped what they were doing to help me. Hyland really does care about its employees, even down to the intern level. They host many seminars to attend where you have the opportunity to hear from high profile Hyland staff & also planned many intern social events so that the interns could form their own sense of community.

What I wish was different

Since it was a remote internship it made it slightly harder to make connections & meet lots of people but there were definitely ways that Hyland made it easier to make personal relationships with co-workers and mentors. Also since it was remote I had to really hold myself accountable to produce good work which was sometimes challenging but it also made me learn time management skills and independence.

Advice

If you are interested in working for Hyland, I would recommend reaching out to fellow Hylanders and demonstrating your interest. I would also advise a new hire to be a sponge and absorb all that Hyland has to offer. There is so much to see and do as a Hylander so take advantage of the opportunities they have put in place for their employees.

eLearning Instructional Design Intern

May - August 2021 • Westlake, OH

What I liked

I really enjoyed the work that I was given. I was put on the teams that were doing the projects, and whatever I was doing was affecting our training sites real time. I never felt that my feedback was not wanted, nor was not invited for any team event.

What I wish was different

I wish I could see my team more in person. A lot of the team was working remote, and it would be good to see them in the office, but I can understand during COVID-19 how that put a damper on in-office events.

Advice

Ask for help. Keep your ear open. Say yes.

Software Development Intern

May - August 2020 • Westlake, OH

What I liked

I liked the option to have a remote internship and apply my education to my job.

What I wish was different

I’d rather have a full time internship this past summer instead of part time. Last internship they normally are full time but with the pandemic we were moved to part time.

Advice

Ask questions and learn from your teammates.

What I liked

They did a great job adapting the internship program virtually. I got lots of hands on experience and still got to network with senior execs and other departments

What I wish was different

I wish I was able to interact with interns more. I was the only intern in my department

Advice

Start your application early! The process took a few weeks and was ultimately worth it

What I liked

Hyland has a very good all-around atmosphere as a company. Everyone I worked under was welcoming and very understanding. They gave me fulfilling tasks and were very patient with any issues I encountered.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have met more people around the company. I also wish I had more time to work under my higher ups so that I could have learned more about the programs I was working with.

Advice

Make an effort to get to know multiple people in every department of the company. They are very social and welcoming, and can help guide you to the position that they think fits best for you.

What I liked

Fantastic work environment. This is my 3rd Summer internship with the company, and its always fun to work with the people here! The employees are flexible, fun, and friendly, yet very productive. I always feel encouraged to learn more and keep growing as a developer

What I wish was different

This year was remote, and they had to limit the internship hours to part time. Not the company's fault, just the whole pandemic thing

Advice

Always ask questions, don't be afraid if you don't know something, the employees here are extremely friendly

Marketing Intern

May 2019 - August 2020 • Westlake, OH

What I liked

The most important aspect of Hyland is the people. No matter what team you are working alongside or the people you meet throughout your internship, everyone is incredibly helpful, personable, and enjoyable to work with. This kind of positive and encouraging environment is what makes Hyland such a great place to work at, and more importantly, a conductive environment to gain a ton of experience and skills. I have interned here for two consecutive summers now and my network and connections within the company have only grown even with this summer being a virtual internship. The HR team made the transition seamless and my team put all the effort they could into keeping us in sync and connected each day. Hyland prioritizes their employees and it is transparent through the happy and passionate people that work there.

What I wish was different

Advice

My main piece of advice is to be yourself. I suggest 'be yourself' because Hyland is full of extremely talented and unique individuals and if you allow yourself to open up and be comfortable with who you are as a person, everyone will get to know you for who you genuinely are, not just the 100% professional side you only show at work. One other small piece of advice is to take advantage of all the resources Hyland provides (and they have many)! If you are working from home there are workout classes via Zoom you can participate in or if you are in the office you can get a haircut/massage for a very low price. As well, they have their own learning platform to develop your professional and technical skills - the list of benefits/perks goes on and on! In conclusion, 1) be yourself and you will stand out, 2) take advantage of all the amazing benefits that this company is handing you to be a better, healthier, and happier version of yourself!

Sales Support Intern

June - August 2020 • Westlake, OH

What I liked

Being an intern at Hyland was one of the most enlightening and rewarding experiences I could have asked for. Going into this experience, I knew about the perks and the culture, but it wasn’t until I personally witnessed and experienced these aspects of Hyland that I realized just how special this place is to work. You learn so much from this internship. Going into this, I had very little knowledge on the type of stuff that Hyland sells, but after this experience, I couldn’t be more confident when it comes to selling anything. I truly feel as if I can do any job after doing this work. The people at Hyland are incredible and genuinely care about helping one another improve. I never felt like I was bothering people when asking for help, or just asking them about their perspective with Hyland. The people are the true difference that make Hyland stand out. During my time as an intern at Hyland, we had to work from home due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to these circumstances, Hyland had every reason to cancel this internship program, but decided to keep it regardless. This showed that Hyland is dedicated to their internship program and values what it does for people. If I could do it all over again, I absolutely would.

What I wish was different

Advice

Dare greatly. You get the most out of Hyland when you do the following: 1.) Take advantage of the best part of Hyland, which is the people! Be curious and ask questions, don’t be afraid to ask for help, or just give others your perspective on things. The people are the best part of Hyland, so don’t be afraid to take advantage of this. 2.) Be authentically you. Hyland is special because of the many different types of people with different perspectives, so you should contribute to this and be yourself! I think you’ll quickly notice how much this is valued at Hyland. 3.) Put yourself out there and don’t be afraid to fail. Ask for more projects, offer to help others, and don’t be afraid to do something because it seems difficult. You will learn so much from this, and a big part of that is having a few failures along the way.

Research and Development Intern

May 2019 - August 2020 • Westlake, OH

What I liked

No, you won't be grabbing coffee for the office, making copies, or doing any other stereotypical intern activities. Hyland ensures that each intern is working on projects that are relevant to their future career. Moreover, Hyland trains all interns on the technologies required to complete their projects, and if there is a concept that slips through the cracks, all Hyland employees are always very willing to help each other out. I have reached out to countless Hylanders both on my team and across the company to help me with an issues, and every single person has been extremely helpful. Lastly, Hyland's intern community is unparalleled. Throughout my internship, I met tons of other interns! Getting to know and hanging out with other interns made for a great summer.

What I wish was different

Advice

Never be afraid to reach out! Whether you want resume advice from HR, to shadow a product manager, or have questions for a developer, everyone is always happy to help.

Data Analyst Intern

June - August 2020 • Westlake, OH

What I liked

While interning at Hyland, you become part of an amazing community. Everyone at the company is so willing to talk to you. I got to learn about different roles and many people gave me advice for the future. My team and my peers were so supportive and it created a great learning environment that allowed me to grow as a young professional. My team was also incredible in teaching me about different projects they were working on. I really learned so much this summer.

What I wish was different

Unfortunately, my internship had to be virtual due to COVID-19. I was disappointed to not have the face to face interaction with my team. However, Hyland was still able to put together a wonderful program given the circumstances and I am very grateful for that.

Advice

Never be afraid to ask questions! Everyone at this company is so eager to help you expand your knowledge and skills. These people have so much to share with you, and all you have to do is ask the right questions! I was able to learn so much just from talking to the people around me.

Data Governance Intern

June 2020 • Westlake, OH

What I liked

Spending the summer working at Hyland was an incredibly value experience. I was provided the opportunity to work on projects that had real impact on the business, on a team that is relatively new within the company and is given a lot of freedom. As a member of the Data Governance team, we were largely left to our own devices to determine projects that will offer the most value to the company. I spent much of my summer working on a project where I helped create a dashboard for a department to track exceptions in their reporting, which will be used in the future to track data cleanup efforts. My favorite part of the internship was getting to see the real impact my work would have on the business even after I left.

What I wish was different

Obviously the biggest disappointment of the internship was the fact that it had to be remote, rather than the traditional intern experience. Due to this, I feel like I missed out on the opportunity to network more with other interns and employees at Hyland, but given the circumstances it was still a very enjoyable internship.

Advice

Be as outgoing as you possibly can during your internship. Ask your mentor and supervisor for advice, coordinate lunches with people who's work your interested in, and don't be afraid to ask questions. Hyland is full of tons of people who can provide you with useful career advice, so it would be worth it to take advantage of that.

Foundations Delivery Intern

June - August 2020 • Westlake, OH

What I liked

Even though the entire experience was remote, I still felt like a core part of the team. I was given enough agency to take responsibility with my work, and was held accountable for making sure that I did it properly and on time. I also was given enough help to make sure that I was never unnecessarily stuck. By the time summer was over, I finished two big projects, and felt proud that I was truly responsible for it. The entire team was extremely helpful, and constantly emphasized the importance of always learning, which included every team member; they were always teaching each other as well as me.

What I wish was different

Advice

Be friendly. Culture is very important at Hyland, and making sure you give it your all both in your work and your workplace is key to success.

Global Healthcare EMEA Services Intern

June 2020 • Westlake, OH

What I liked

Hyland is inviting and nurturing both professionally and personally no matter your official title. Being treated as an equal while being a summer intern made me full needed, and that my work was making a positive impact on the company. The Hyland way of working is very laid back, this does not mean they are lazy. Hyland employees are some of the hardest working people I know. When there is work to be done Hylanders are there and working nonstop to get find a solution, from services to sales, management to development, everyone works together like a well-oiled machine. Hyland is an amazing place to work at any level of your career. If you're ready to use your skills and be challenged in a professional environment, Hyland may be the place for you.

What I wish was different

Advice

Be ready to put your skills and ideas into practice. If you think something can be done better than do it and work with the team to implement it.

Sales Support Intern

June - August 2020 • Westlake, OH

What I liked

Interning at Hyland this past summer was one of the most rewarding experiences that I have had, thus far. As an intern at Hyland, it is up to you to make this a memorable learning opportunity. How involved you are, networking opportunities, types of projects, etc. are all dependent on what you put into the internship. The people at this company are some of the most knowledgable and kind people you will work with. I have heard countless times that "Hyland is a People Company" and that is so true. This is not an internship where you will be running to get coffee or doing tedious work. You will be making a difference as an intern at Hyland.

What I wish was different

Advice

My advice is to take the internship and run with it. Make it your own, cater it to what you like and what you want to learn. The best thing about Hyland is that they allow you to form the internship into what you want out of it. Another piece of advice is to constantly be networking! Everyone at Hyland is very willing to sit down with you and talk about your goals, careers paths, and give professional advice.

Software Developer Intern

June - August 2020 • Westlake, OH

What I liked

Hyland has an amazing culture amongst its employees. It's an environment where everyone is welcome to try new things and pursue many different work interests. The people there are not only great for asking advice when you come to an obstacle in your work, but they 're also great people to chat and make friends with. I'm also extremely grateful that Hyland continued their internship program remotely through the ongoing pandemic, and it shows how much they value their interns.

What I wish was different

With the remote format, there were not as many opportunities to interact with new people at the office and there were many more meetings that my coworkers had to be busy with, but it still worked out well.

Advice

During the time at Hyland, it's a great idea to get make as many connections as you can. Introduce yourselves to people on the team, connect with them online, and expand your professional network. Not only will these connections help if you ever need technical advice, but also with future career efforts after you graduate college and pursue a full-time job.

Global Healthcare Services Intern

What I liked

The internship experience that I have gained through Hyland has helped me in all aspects of myself. It has provided me hands-on project experience to help me to gain knowledge in the career path I would like to take and it has given me confidence in myself and my ability to succeed. Everyone within Hyland is beyond supportive of each other and the internship program. They are always willing to provide shadowing opportunities and project work. There are also many opportunities to get to know other interns, work with them on projects, and get to see other aspects of the company other than the department in which your position is. As an intern you feel as if you not only were able to make a difference within yourself, but also an impact within the company as well.

What I wish was different

Advice

A piece of advice that I would share is to not be afraid to take the opportunity at Hyland to explore your niche. Throughout my time at Hyland I have been able to see many different roles and this has allowed me to gain better insight into what I want to do within my career. Be vocal with what you are looking for and what seems to fit you and what does not. The best part about Hyland is their flexibility and willing to work with everyone to meet their needs.
