Human Rights First

Communications Intern

August 2023 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I have loved my experience with Human Rights First! The environment is very conducive to exploring what each person is interested in, and very helpful for expanding networking experience and workplace experience. I feel as though I have a of room for growth and learning, and have really felt good about my time here in terms of my actual work, as well as the professional skills I am learning.

What I wish was different

I have not comments on this!

Advice

I would say this is a good company if this is work you are passionate about, as we spend a lot of time talking about politics, law, justice, and human rights, so if those things are hard for you to discuss or you do not enjoy working with them every day, I would find another place!

Refugee Representation Intern

June - August 2018 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I loved getting the opportunity to work directly with clients, I loved getting to work with all the professional staff members and getting exposed to different aspects of the refugee representation process from going to detention centers, going to the courts, escorting clients to different government offices, and working in the refugee representation office. I also loved learning from people in other offices as well as speakers that would come and talk about their careers and experiences.

What I wish was different

Nothing! I loved everything about this internship and I wouldn't change anything about it.

Refugee Representation Bilingual Intern

August 2018 • Washington, DC

What I liked

As a Latin American Studies major this internship has allowed me to have personal interactions with the culture and the people which I hope to eventually help in my professional life through an NGO such as HRF. Helping asylum seekers is extremely gratifying work and has helped me to really understand the struggle they go through on a firsthand basis.
