Camp Counselor

June - August 2019 • Edinburg, PA

What I liked

The counselors were all extremely close and had a week of bonding time before the campers arrived. This made the staff much closer and able to work together successfully throughout the summer.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have stayed longer. I was obligated to come home at the end of camp due to being in the Ohio Army National Guard, when other counselors stayed a few extra nights after the campers left to clean up and say final goodbyes. This was an experience I wish I didn't have to miss out on.

Advice

If you are an Education major, this job is an incredible way to build experience in teaching. I am a Senior studying Physical Education an Health Education. I had the opportunity to teach Multi-sport, Dance, and Gymnastics at this camp and I came back to do my student teaching and felt so much more confident in my leaderships skills thanks to Pocono Spring Camp!

Camp Counselor

June - August 2019 • Rock Hill, NY

What I liked

getting to spend time with kids, being outside, lots of exercise, meeting new people

What I wish was different

it was incredibly long days as it's a 24/7 job and you're with the kids almost nonstop, but this was the best way to bond with the kids and it's what you expect when you work at an overnight camp! also it is not a sustainable camp at all in terms of environmental consciousness which drove me slightly insane

Advice

Make sure you always have a very enthusiastic and positive attitude and are prepared to participate in activities that might be out of your comfort zone

What I liked

I loved the people there and the experiences I had. I loved my coworkers and the kids and the family feel of it all.

What I wish was different

Some things weren't as organized as they could have been, and I think some groups had too many kids.

Advice

Try everything! Don't be afraid to say "yes". I had some of the best experiences because I just let myself join in on the fun.

Camp Counselor

June - August 2019 • Warrensburg, NY

What I liked

I like spending my summer out in the wilderness of the New York Adirondacks. It was a nice change from the Suburban life that I live during the school year in Fairfax Virginia. I like being a ropes course specialist as it was an experience that was challenging and rewarding. I got to meet a bunch of new people from all around the world. I built relationships with kids and led them as a positive role model.

What I wish was different

What I wish was different was that there would be more activities for other counselors to hang out with each other. There was little time off and I was very busy. Still, it was super fun and rewarding.

Advice

Try to get as much sleep as you can. Go out and enjoy your life and experience new things. Even if you're scared of taking a leap at first, you'll realize that it's worth putting in the effort for!

Camp Counselor

June - August 2018 • Minnehaha Springs, WV

What I liked

Camp Twin Creeks is a place I grew up as a camper and now that I am a counselor the love I have for camp has not changed. Twin Creeks is one of the most welcoming and positive environments to work in. All the staff from the head staff to the chefs to the maintenance men are so friendly and genuinely care about you and how you are doing. Besides the people, living int the mountains all summer helps you disconnect from the outside world and be able to learn more about yourself ad others and really focus on being an amazing counselor to the kids who you learn so much from about responsibility and being a leader.

What I wish was different

Wish i could've stayed longer!

Advice

Enjoy every second of it because it goes by fast!

Camp Counselor

June - August 2018 • East Stroudsburg, PA

What I liked

I loved this job! It was by far the best way to spend a summer in college I could have asked for. The staff was incredible. I always felt supported. The job itself was always challenging and fun.

What I wish was different

I wish it had been longer, honestly. Camp went by so fast, and I felt like I still had so much to learn. That's why I am going back next year.

Advice

Be ready to be tired most of the time. More than anything, this job tested my endurance and patience. I made so many friends and felt like I was truly making a difference in the kids' lives and the other staff members. It's totally worth being exhausted.
