Homewood Suites

Hotel Front Desk Clerk

July 2020 • Dulles, VA

What I liked

I like the ambient of working in a hotel and getting a feel for how the different sections of the hotel are run. I enjoyed working with my team and getting to know my coworkers. They made the transition of having a new job easy and were also there when I had a question. The guests who stayed at homewood were long term and would typically stay anywhere from 3 weeks to 3 months with us so I got to know them more than a guest who would long a night.

What I wish was different

Because of COVID-19 and regulations we weren't able to operate fully like summers in the past so I never got the entire experience of working with the shuttles and having more guests at a time.

Advice

I would advise anyone to get in touch with someone about working front desk for a hilton property because you get to learn first hand how everything is run. By working front desk, you get to interact directly with both housekeeping, engineering, and all of the guests.

Guest Services Representative

May - August 2019 • Issaquah, WA

What I liked

I liked how I was the youngest person there so it forced me to act in a professional manner.

What I wish was different

I wish I was busier so I had more to do.

Advice

If you ever go into hospitality, the guest matters the most. Compared any other customer service job I have had this one is definitely the hardest because you are dealing with some complicated but also very high up business people. You also have to have very thick skin since your main job besides checking people in and out is solving their problems.

Front Desk

What I liked

I really enjoyed the people who worked there. They are some of the best people to work with in the hospitality business which is a tough one. My coworkers made the day enjoyable and fun no matter how busy the hotel was.

Advice

Be approachable yet stern. You will receive a variety of guests and some will not be pleasant. Mentally prepare yourself everytime someone walks through the doors. However, have fun with the job, you’ll gain many stories to tell your friends and family.
