Working hands-on and getting directly involved with the trainees. I was able to learn a lot more about non-profit organizations while putting my personal knowledge of food justice and the biggest hurdles surrounding homelessness at work.
What I wish was different
I wish I had more time than just one summer! I hope to return to the organization and continue contributing to their overall projects.
Advice
Homeless Garden Project is a place of community, so don't be afraid to immerse yourself in their community and connect with the people involved (on all levels ranging from directors to trainees/volunteers) as much as possible.
