What I liked

I enjoyed being involved in the development of multi-million dollar projects. I was a part of the initial underwriting and due diligence, and it was rewarding to see my work be implemented in the decision making process.

What I wish was different

I would of enjoyed being able to see a few acquisition projects go all the way through, but due to the direction of the market, the focus was on investments.

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask questions. Instead of blending in, you will get more out of the experience by spending time with more senior employees.

What I liked

Holt Lunsford Commercial had a great work environment, and I enjoyed getting to know many of my colleagues. The company is fairly flat, so I had the opportunity to work with analyst, department managers and even the CEO. By working with different levels of professionals, I was able to see the firm operate from different perspectives.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have had the opportunity to spend more time with Frontier Equity, which is the private equity division of the firm. I enjoyed learning more about the equity side of real estate, and would love to work with a private equity group in the future.

Advice

This summer I realized the importance of networking. I tried to go to lunch with at least two other professionals from different firms or other industries every week. This helped broaden my understanding of the different industries in Dallas, and also provided me the opportunities to interact with high powered professionals.
