What I liked

I loved my coworkers. I was placed at a small table in the middle of a cube pod because there weren't enough desks to accommodate, but I found I enjoyed that very approachable position as it encouraged engagement instead of giving me a place to hide away. My coworkers were always personable and supportive, frequently hilarious and quick with a witty comeback, and I thrived in the environment created by their sparkling spirit.

What I wish was different

I was a latecomer in the summer program and the technological pickings were slim. I was provided an outdated laptop model by necessity and it created some minor challenges along the way. However, I was also granted access to the communal Mac to work on projects, so all told this was a trivial complaint.

Advice

Engage with your coworkers, not just your fellow summer workers. The connections you make with the standing employees will bring greater value to your career down the road. Don't be afraid to ask questions: I was gifted many nuggets of valuable wisdom, tips 'n' tricks, and helpful suggestions that helped me better visualize my road ahead, with its many potential twists and detours, and gain confidence that I'll know my turn when I see it.
