Hilton Head Bicycle Company

What I liked

I think about this experience every single day. A friend asked me if I was interested in this opportunity sometime during the winter of 2021, a time of boredom amidst the peak of covid. Little did I know this would be the best summer of my life spent around people who I quickly grew to love. Firstly, Jim & Sue Hall are the best people. Owning and operating HHBC during the summer is no small feat. Sue's maternal expertise was on display daily as she treated the work staff like a family, ensuring everyone was taken care of. Jim constantly displayed his management prowess and leadership. There were plenty of times he could've gotten upset about a number of things (customers, our errors, ext), but he never did. He always kept his poise. From a management standpoint, that was my biggest takeaway; constantly keeping cool in the face of frustration. I admire that. I loved working under our manager, Nate. In my opinion, he walked the fine line of superior & friend in a perfect fashion. He was like a coach you loved to play for, you never wanted to let him down. If you are worried about throwing yourself into an unfamiliar situation, don't be!! I had no connection to bikes, the Halls, or South Carolina, but after a few days, I felt right at home. Living on the beach for a summer was a dream. I look back at my phone memories from these days all the time, reminiscing on the great times me and my friends had. I could go on & on about how much fun I had, how this place made me feel, and how it holds dear to my heart to this day. But instead of me continuing to ramble, YOU SHOULD GO EXPERIENCE IT YOURSELF, it will be the best decision you make in your young life. As I enter the work world, I realize how an opportunity like this has a small window. You'll never really be able to have an experience like this again once you start working post college. Don't waste it. (it's also is a great talking point on your resume)

What I liked

Having the opportunity to work at the Hilton Head Bicycle Company over the summer was amazing. The staff is so friendly and close making the work environment feel comfortable and fun. The owners Jim and Sue Hall are caring and incredibly supportive towards the whole staff, especially the interns, and make it their priority to see us succeed on the island as well as in school. The job itself is very fun, I worked in the office helping customers with their reservations and I truly had the time of my life. Nate was a great mentor and helped me become confident in my position and was there to answer any questions I had. Along with the amazing experience I had in the office I was also able to help load and unload the trucks which was so fun and the energy everyone had was great. Outside of the job we had the opportunity to attend a class with Mr. Hall every Friday. In these classes, he ran through what it takes to run a business and the details that went into making their bike shop successful. There is no better way to spend a summer, than living at the beach, working a great job, making great friends, and getting to have the best burgers made by Mr. Hall himself on Fridays!

What I liked

Working with the team at HHBC was an incredible experience. I cannot recommend this summer internship enough. Jim, Sue, Nate, and the whole team are incredibly fun, supportive, and uplifting people. They are willing to help you with anything you need on the island and for school. The Entrepreneurship course is also an invaluable opportunity to learn the critical skills of running a small business. The material is all real-world, applicable stuff so it is something no school can offer. The summer experience is incredibly fun, stress free, and informative. It is an amazing opportunity to learn about the island as well as the ins and outs of small business management. The Halls are very honest and open about their decision-making within the business which is a very special chance to learn what goes into such a successful operation. I've never enjoyed an employer more than the team at HHBC and wouldn't think twice about reccomending this to anyone interested. Spend the summer at the beach, working a fun job, and meeting an incredible group of people.

What I liked

If anyone reading this is considering this opportunity for a summer job, there is nothing I would recommend more. My experience working there this past summer was nothing but amazing. To start, the work environment is absolutely perfect. Jim and Sue Hall are phenomenal owners who care for their workers to the fullest extent, while facilitating a fun and enjoyable environment each and every day. The year-round workers are extremely welcoming, ready to help, and love to joke around and get a good laugh. For the summer, Hilton Head became my home and I wouldn't have asked for anything else. Living on the island and working with my high school friends was a once and a lifetime experience and this opportunity is priceless. I will never forget the laughs and the memories that this experience has given me and that is all thanks to HHBC. Not only that, but we had the opportunity to learn hands-on about the financial documents behind the business which is something unique you won't be able to find in any college course (From Jim himself, who is a GOAT teacher). Personally, I grew exponentially over the summer and it would not have been possible without this opportunity.

This was an overall amazing experience. The island itself was beautiful. The HHBC staff made sure that the job was engaging and fun. The internship was great, Mr. Hall taught myself and my peer's tons of information that is vital for any business. Personally, I would argue that I learned more from the internship experience than most accounting classes I have taken. This internship and job experience were awesome in that I was able to learn, have fun, network, and make connections with friends that I will enjoy forever. If you are looking to major in anything business-related and want to live in paradise all summer, I would highly recommend this internship with Mr. Hall.

I had a great experience at Hilton Head Bicycle Company. I want to take this opportunity to thank the whole staff especially the owner Mr and Ms Hall for their kindness and guidance. I never felt so much comfortable a in a workplace before. The level of care they have for the interns was above and beyond on what require. It was a really fun environment. Some fun activities we did: the owner took us on his boat for a tour in the island, he organize a golf tournament , he took us to watch movie and so much more The experience that I had at Hilton Head Bicycle Company makes me feel so much comfortable in the classroom, also it has shown me how much goes into being a part of next business leader. Working on projects with other interns from different Universities , learning how to analyze business , and how put together a business plan were super important. Honestly, In this internship, I learned more than I thought I would beside working with many amazing people. I will encourage students who want get great experience and have fun, Hilton Head Bicycle is the absolutely the best company to apply to. What I liked

My experience working at Hilton Head Bicycle Company in the Entrepreneurship Internship was both an idyllic summer experience and a position that added richly to my career growth and knowledge of business. The culture at Hilton Head Bicycle creates a close-knit community and genuine fun- I've never laughed so much at a job in a workspace as I did day-to-day at the company. The owners of the company, Jim and Sue Hall, give an unbelievable amount of care and encouragement to their interns, and truly make the company a welcoming place to work and a true home for the summer. I cannot say enough good things about the owners and how generous they are. Every day at work is filled with enthusiasm and positive energy. Beyond the company culture, the position itself teaches valuable work experience combined with education of accounting and financial knowledge critical for understanding business. The program truly gives you a hand-on experience learning how to manage businesses that will be helpful no matter what career field one goes into. In short, I cannot say enough good things about this program. It offers a low-stress, enjoyable summer on the beautiful Hilton Head Island combined with valuable experience and education for future career growth.
