Undergraduate Research Assistant

May - November 2019 • Oakland, CA

What I liked

I liked having the opportunity to utilize my bilingual skills as a research assistant in a medical setting. I was part of a research team studying the effects of immigration status on reports of domestic violence in the emergency department. I liked going from conducting surveys and conversing with patients in the ED to inputting and analyzing data in a research office.

Student Nurse PCT

July 2019 • Rochester, NY

What I liked

I liked that since they know you're a student nurse as well as a patient care tech, they take the time to teach you different tips and tricks that will definitely make transitioning into the nursing world easier.

What I wish was different

I wish that they would train all Student Nurse PCTs on blood, even if the expense of the class didn't end up coming from the hospital and if it came out of pocket. I just think it's a great skill for future RNs to have, especially that they don't teach that in nursing school.

Advice

Learn as much as you can on the job. There is a wealth of knowledge on any floor that you can take something away from even if it isn't your ideal work place.
