Hibard Group

Video Production Intern

May - August 2019 • Los Angeles, CA

What I liked

I honestly really enjoyed my experience working for Hibard Group. I thought Emily (Founder and CEO) was extremely communicative and helpful with all of the tasks I was assigned. I always knew I was able to ask whatever questions I might have had and get a quick, set detailed response! I enjoyed the flexibility of the internship as well, I was able to work from Eugene, Oregon rather than trying to find a sport in LA for the summer. Overall, I gained vital editing experience and learned something new with almost every project.

What I wish was different

I think some of the tasks were due fairly soon after assigned and I found myself either not being able to finish the assignment to the best of my ability or not being content with my work at the time it was due. I found myself asking for extensions lot.

Advice

Download the app! I found Asana to be super helpful and easy to navigate. The app is helpful, especially during summer when you're out and you don't have your laptop to send and receive messages.

Intern

What I liked

Hibard Group was absolutely phenomenal for someone getting into the film industry. My experience was tailored to my skills and interests, something I was never guaranteed at previous internships. I was interested in business aspects of film and editing so I got to use my existing knowledge and passion of those jobs and also grow my knowledge of those fields.

What I wish was different

Occasionally tasks were assigned with deadlines that could not be met while also creating the best possible product. However, the people are Hibard Group were always willing to give more time if informed early into the project of any necessary extensions or changes needed to the project in order to make the deadline.

Advice

Be willing to do anything. Certain tasks I got during my time at Hibard Group were things I had never done before and became wonderful learning experiences that challenged me to apply work ethic I used in other known skills towards something new.

Production Intern

June - August 2018 • Los Angeles, CA

What I liked

Emily, the director of the documentary we filmed over the summer, was very eager to include her interns as much as possible. The experience was what we made of it. It was a helpful learning experience because it was hands on and there were many opportunities to network. I was also given the chance to direct for a day. Not many interns get to do that.

What I wish was different

There was a lot of driving to filming locations and no compensation for gas, so this internship took a lot out of my wallet. Travel compensation would have kept morale much higher.

Advice

Don't be afraid to speak up if you have a good idea. The entertainment industry is searching for innovators. Be the innovator they're looking for.
