Henkel

Strategy & PMO Intern

June - August 2023 • Rocky Hill, CT

What I liked

I enjoyed the company culture, as well as the team structure and different managers I was able to work under.

What I wish was different

I wish there was a remote option to the internship, as much of the team worked remotely and thus there was very little face to face interaction in the office.

Advice

Make sure to reach out about an questions you have regardless of their significance, and do your best to network, everyone is willing to help and connect if you reach out.

Packaging Intern

January - August 2022 • Trumbull, CT

What I liked

I had an amazing experience with Henkel! The internship felt like a full-time (post-college) job. They gave me real responsibilities, even let me own some projects, and branch out into any areas I was further interested in. I really like that I worked in the consumer goods area of Henkel as well because it was extremely fulfilling to see the products I was working with on store shelves.

What I wish was different

I wish there was a bit more travel. I got to go on two business trips, but I wish I would have been able to see some of the flagship plants at Henkel. However, I understand this might have been difficult due to the fact that my internship was during the covid pandemic.

Advice

Don't be afraid to reach out about things you would like to work on. This internship is very much what you make of it!!! You have to go out of your way to get on projects, and once you mention your interest, people are more than willing to put you on the team!

Toxicology Data Analytics Intern

May - August 2022 • Trumbull, CT

What I liked

The company was first and foremost full of intelligent, capable, friendly and welcoming people who made every effort to provide an engaging and enjoyable experience for me. Although the company's products are well known, the company itself isn't, so I was a little skeptical when I first came on board. However, interning there was well worth it - my supervisor made every effort to give me the support I needed to do my job well, and I learned a great deal while doing it. The project itself was also something the provided tangible value for the company as well, and it was nice to feel valued.

What I wish was different

The one thing I can saw I would have liked would have been a little more direction from my team on their needs for my project, but that's a minor want. Overall, I loved my experience!

Advice

If you like learning and are willing to get your hands dirty, Henkel will work with you to teach you what you need to know, so you can do the job they need you to do well. It's perfectly ok not to know everything before the internship gets underway.

Analytical Lab Technician Intern

May 2020 • Madison Heights, MI

What I liked

I love how the analytical team collaborates ideas together to determine solutions to problems or to develop/improve methods to increase efficiency. Everyone is extremely friendly and approachable. The other interns and I worked together to complete sample tests for customers, and we always helped each other out.

What I wish was different

As I still currently work here, I wish to gain more experience and knowledge with other instruments/machines. I also wish that I am able to work directly alongside one of the chemical engineers to gain more insight about my future career. I currently work in the lab semi-independently.

Advice

Set yourself different from the rest by doing more than what you’re asked to do. This experience is a stepping stone into a professional career. The management will notice your efforts and possibly offer you a full-time job upon graduation, or they can be a great reference for the next step into your career.

Process Engineering Intern

June - September 2019 • Pittsburg, CA

What I liked

The people working there are amazing! I loved learning new things every day. The pay was very good and I felt that everything I was working on was impacting tons of people. I'm very happy that it was my FIRST engineering/workforce experience!!

What I wish was different

I wish it was located closer to Davis, CA. I was commuting every day from Davis to Concord but it was worth it in the long run.

Advice

Being able to multitask is quintessential for working in the "real" world. There was a time when I was working on 20 projects/tasks at a time on top of attending meetings and trying to eat lunch.

Cosmetic Chemist Intern

June - August 2019 • Darien, CT

What I liked

I enjoyed several different aspects of my internship. I was working daily inside of a laboratory alongside senior chemists integrated into a research project. I was involved in day to day batch making of various new and existing products of the Joico hair care line. I would run the products through stability and analyze the products' pH, viscosity, appearance, odor and weight loss. This would determine whether or not the product would survive on the shelf. This was extremely interesting to see how a product comes to life from the lab to the shelves.

What I wish was different

I wish that I was able to do more individual work on a specific project, rather than help other chemists out every day. I still enjoyed this very much and learned quite a bit from my internship.

Advice

One piece of advice I would share about this experience is to make every day count. I was able to learn so much each and every day and was able to meet many new people. I was able to network and learn about other people's experiences and even decide what I want to do with my career.

What I wish was different

A little less palletizing work and more package testing would have been nice.
