Diversity and Community Field Fellowship

January - August 2019 • New York City, NY

What I liked

The best part of this was gaining community organizing skills within the context of the music industry. At the end of your hard work, you could watch a show.

What I wish was different

I wish there was a biggest pool of volunteers with different skill sets that'll help voter registration form collections. This just means bringing in your skills to bring in all types of diverse volunteers.

Advice

I would advise students to be patience when you community organize, but there are fruitful benefits. The organization has basis in non-partisanship, so please make that aware when you're email exchanging with potential community events.

Team Leader

July 2018 • Los Angeles, CA

What I liked

Being able to get comfortable in a leadership role, get to know people and figure out what works best for them to get people registered and informed about elections!

What I wish was different

I wish I wasn't so scared before hand.

Advice

It's really exciting but manageable if you respect the work and the people you're working with. Things are easily built up in the mind as being impossible, but they're doable if you work hard and ask for help when you need it.
