HDR Was a great firm to work at, and I learned a lot in just one summer there. I was pushed to do great work, and the studio culture there was excellent.

Working in a large workplace for an international firm is really exciting, and you will be able to see how specialised the profession can be, and how many career paths you can pursue within architecture.

Everyone here is extremely nice and are more than willing to help when you are stuck or are unsure how to do something. If you want to learn something, there is always an opportunity to learn from someone very skilled at that task.

Equal mix of CAD work, site evaluations, project reviews and busy work.

Nothing.

Advice

Always, always, communicate with your advisors about doubts or concerns. Especially, if it involves your mental, and emotional, capability to do the work. Always ask questions...it's good to feel like your asking dumb questions! There cannot be egos when learning.

It was cool to work with a big and impactful company that had a very employee oriented culture

What I wish was different

There wasn’t a specific project for me when I got there so I got put on a lot of somewhat random projects instead of having a clear direction for the summer.

Ask what group you will be in and what you will be working on in the interview!!
