Hattie Larlham

Direct Care Aide

February 2020 • Mantua, OH

What I liked

I absolutely LOVED working with the kids, it's a hard job but they brought a light to my life that I cannot explain. I loved learning more about long-term care and making personal relationships with every individual.

What I wish was different

I wish the staff was compensated for as hard as they wor. There are two kinds of people here, the kind that doesn't care, and the kind that put their heart and soul into this job.

Advice

I would absolutely recommend starting here if you want to end up in the medical field. It gives amazing hands-on experience without needing a degree first. You learn medical documentation and how to work with other medical staff. (Oh and the pay is pretty good too)

What I liked

Hattie Larlham is a great job to have to gain experience in the healthcare field and become more comfortable with direct patient care.

What I wish was different

I wish they provided more training and stricter rules for their staff.

Advice

There are many different homes and sites you can work at. Don't panic if a site isn't the right fit for you and be open to new opportunities.

Direct Support Specialist

June - July 2017 • Mantua, OH

What I liked

The patients are very sweet.

What I wish was different

This job was awful. They initially told me in the interview that I would primarily being doing paperwork, and there would only be a bit of hands-on experience. As someone who has had no training in the medical field, I was extremely overwhelmed. I witnessed other co-workers degrading patients either in front of them or other staff with no disciplinary actions. Although there are specific requirements in order to move patients, no one is willing to help. Even the nurses will not respond when you call them.

Advice

Honestly, I just wouldn't work there unless you have medical training. This is basically an STNA position without proper training, and without the proper pay.
