Manufacturing Engineering Co-op

May 2018 • York, PA

What I liked

I enjoyed the experience of learning to lead difficult projects and focus on my organizational skills.

What I wish was different

Not a thing, I really enjoy this job!

Advice

Manufacturing isn’t for everyone. Don’t be afraid to ask for help if you need it, and don’t be scared to admit to your mistakes.

Manufacturing Engineering Co-Op

January 2017 • York, PA

What I liked

I really enjoy the people here. Everyone is very down to earth and willing to help one another. You are never without a resource.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have started in the department I am in now. I started out in Maintenance and moved to Assembly within the same plant. I enjoy the fast-paced environment in Assembly.

Advice

If you are an electrical engineering major like myself, seek out any and all resources in your area of engineering. There are few electricals here, but they all have key roles to make sure the plant runs.

Engineering Co-op

August - December 2017 • Milwaukee, WI

What I liked

Housing being provided is a huge luxury that the company takes care of. The internship is also a three phase program which rotates every phase to a different area within the company; Co-ops can work in testing, design, powertrain, parts acquisition, and more fields. This allows students to find where they belong within the company.

What I wish was different

The HR department is hard to work with, often being unresponsive to emails and other forms of communication. Harley-Davidson is a large company that acts like it with their bureaucratic and set ways.

Advice

Get out and seek out the companies you want to work for. I got this job because I pursued it on my own, Harley didn't come to our career fair or advertise this program to me and they appreciated that I went out of my way to seek them out.

Marketing Intern

May - September 2018 • Milwaukee, WI

What I liked

I was able to travel and manage our footprint at sponsored events. I was in Orange County managing an a surfing event that we were trying to generate leads. I liked how I was given a ton of responsibility and relied heavy upon.

What I wish was different

A little less stressful but I learned how to manage the stress better towards the end.

Advice

Show up everyday with a positive attitude and people will appreciate you. Understand that you are new and have no experience. Those around you want to help, just have to ask the right questions to the right people.

Test Engineering Co-op

July - September 2018 • Milwaukee, WI

What I liked

I loved the experience, Harley did a very good job of making sure the Co-op's are well off by providing housing free of charge. There were approximately 20 Co-op's working in the engineering facility.

What I wish was different

I wish that HR did a better job of communicating with the Co-ops in advance. Before your start date it is very difficult to discuss logistics of any sorts with the appropriate folks.

Advice

If you have a company that you want to work for go out and pursue them. Too many students at my school just wait for positions to get handed to them at career fairs. There were no employers that excited me at any career fair Cal Poly has had so I made a list of employers that I was interested in, got on their websites, and applied.
