Harbor House Domestic Abuse Programs

About Harbor House Domestic Abuse Programs

Established in 1984, Harbor House Domestic Abuse Programs is the singular agency in our community committed to understanding the breadth of domestic abuse and victims’ evolving needs. We understand that domestic abuse is scary, difficult and uncertain. We will do everything in our power to keep people safe through knowledge and connection – and we will take time to celebrate bravery by celebrating action. As passionate advocates we constantly seek to start, drive and shape the conversation around domestic abuse and the services needed in order to break the cycle. Above all we are partners – here to support and empower the more than 1,600 individuals and families who seek our services each year.

Harbor House services available to area families and the community include six key programs:
• Shelter Program (a safe place, 24-hour crisis helpline, and emergency transportation)
• Children’s Program (individual and group support, advocacy, and education)
• Women’s Program (individual and group support, advocacy, and referral)
• Community Education Program (prevention education primarily in K-12 schools, training for professionals and community presentations)
• Domestic Violence Intervention Program (perpetrator assessments, education sessions, and monitoring of treatment programs)
• Volunteer Program (opportunities for ongoing adult and teen involvement)

The mission of Harbor House is to offer safety and support to diverse families in crisis, and to lead a community-wide partnership in the awareness and prevention of domestic violence and abuse.

“I liked how I was able to have such an hands on experience. Most legal internships don’t expose you to every aspect of the law but Harbor House did. ”
