What I liked

It was an incredibly welcoming environment. It felt like a giant family. You were given the freedom to complete tasks and then when you felt as if you hit a checkpoint could share with just about anyone and they would help give pointers or ways to improve. If you had a question about anything at any time, someone would answer it in depth or find someone who could. Was an incredible learning experience. I had minimum to no oil knowledge, but after working the summer there I could work in the industry. Over the summer, all the interns were provided with living, shop boots, shop shirts, and work laptops.

What I wish was different

I would've liked to have one or two more projects to do. Towards the end, I had a lot of free time and did sit around in the office quite a bit. One of my original projects didn't work out, because of the timeline I was in and an external customer was taking too long to provide necessary details. I worked on 3 separate projects over the course of 3 months, but once I really got the ball rolling I finished all of it quickly.

Advice

Some advice would be to not be afraid. I was worried about my very limited knowledge, but it didn't end up being an affecting factor. A business needs someone of just about any knowledge or skill. You can be taught through watching and listening. You will learn more in a week working than you do in a year of school. Having a good attitude and an open mind were the key to success for me.

Maybe the location. I would have loved to experience a different location.

Learn and be open to as much as you can. Also network and make good relationships with the people there

What I liked

I enjoyed being able to do hands on work as well as overcoming challenges everyday at my job.

What I wish was different

Being in oil and gas there were not as many female employees to share their experience in the industry. I wish I was exposed to that to see their experience in this male dominated industry.

Advice

Apply everywhere! Go to career fair events and really talk to employers. Pick a few companies you really want to work for and reach out! The worst thing they can say is no or they can offer a position. Put yourself out there!
