Gympass

Human Resources and Operations Intern

June - August 2018 • Houston, TX

What I liked

I really enjoyed all the different ad-hoc projects I got to work on. I got to develop strategies to increase efficiency, create/revise the HR policies, and make relationships with gyms. I also loved working with my manager, she was incredibly insightful; she taught me a lot about Human Resources and about life in general.

What I wish was different

Sometimes there were tasks that were pretty mundane and administrative that I wish I didn't have to do. For example, there were three weeks where I was just calling gyms every day and asking them to set up appointments. It was not the most fun task, but I learned that I didn't want to do a job like that. I also felt that at times, I did more work than my fellow interns, but because we weren't full time employees, there wasn't much I could do about it. m

Advice

Definitely put yourself out there and learn all you can, treat your internship as if it was like your job! Sometimes it might feel like a chore to go because of the administrative tasks, but remember you are at least learning how you work as a full-time employee. Even if you might not feel you're getting value from the internship, remember, it's more about the connections that you make than what you actually do!
