Gus Macker Basketball | Jackson

Graphic Design and Social Media Intern

January - July 2023 • Jackson, MI

What I liked

Planning and working the tournament is a unique experience that offers you skills that other internships may not give you. Overall, this is a great experience that I would recommend to anyone. Kyle and the other interns are great people and fun to work with.

What I wish was different

I wish that the team could've met one to two times before the tournament. All the meetings were from Zoom until the tournament weekend, and it would've been nice to meet everyone in person before the tournament weekend.

Advice

This is an experience that is what you make of it. Kyle gives you a lot of flexibility and freedom, so I recommend picking some skills to practice so you can add them to your portfolio and resume.

What I liked

I gained a lot of experience on how to put on an event virtually and actually help run it in the summer. The hours are very flexible and a great community to be involved with because of the supportive team.

Event Management Intern

January - July 2021 • Jackson, MI

What I liked

This internship was such a great way to get event management experience from start to finish. Beginning with the insightful planning process, up until the hands on experience of helping to manage a successful Gus Macker Basketball Tournament.

What I wish was different

I wish we had been able to meet in person prior to the event, but these circumstances taught me many skills involved in virtual communication, and the importance of keeping up on it.

Advice

This was a great first internship experience for myself, and you truly will get out of it what you put in. The commitment is not huge, and there is so much opportunity to create your own goals and reach outside of your comfort zone. Leaning in to this experience is the best advice I can give, and it is something I will not forget!
