Operations Associate

April 2018 • Lawndale, CA

What I liked

The experience as a whole was enjoyable. I met interesting musicians who gave me advice about music, helped out confused and frustrated customers so that they leave the store happy, and formed a bond with my more experienced co-workers.

What I wish was different

I wish I would’ve been able to be more involved in the store. My job was essentially a security guard who answers phones and empties trash. I would have appreciated helping out sales associates once the foot traffic in the store got to be too much for them to handle.

Advice

Some people lack the basic common decency used in appropriately acknowledging and conversing with others. Others are entitled and believe that no matter how many people have been waiting before him, he must be helped first , because his issue/item is most important. It’s important to realize that you will have to deal with this egotism and misguided rage because some people can’t understand that you aren’t there to please them, you’re there as a middleman for the company. Yes, keeping the customer happy matters, but not any more than basic respect.

What I liked

I enjoyed the work environment, the, "GC Culture" was a definite positive experience. I've made personal connections, and expanded my network in music. The most fun part about the job was learning about the music products and being able to test them.

What I wish was different

The main change I would like to see correlates to my political views around wages.

Advice

Enter the workplace with a willingness to learn and the ability to adapt. Have fun while maintaining a seriousness about your intentions for wanting to join the community.

Sales Associate

May - August 2019 • Seven Corners, VA

What I liked

I loved my coworkers and the ability to work with instruments that fascinate me. I got to genuinely help people that needed my advice and help start people on one of the most rewarding possible journeys, the discovery of creating music.

What I wish was different

I do wish the pay was higher, and training could have been more effective (my first week was the manager's vacation, so I think that my training period was less effective than that of others).
