Growing Gardens of Boulder County

Fall Environmental Internship

August - November 2019 • Boulder, CO

What I liked

I loved my internship at Growing Gardens. I learned a great amount involving environmental education and got to meet many amazing people that work at the farm. Growing Gardens was a very welcoming environment that helped me prosper during the internship. I looked forward to my days that I went to the garden and was able to better myself as environmental educator. This internship, without a doubt, was one of the best experiences I have had and helped me develop ideas for my future career

Food Project Farm Intern

March - August 2019 • Longmont, CO

What I liked

I had a great time working on the food project farm. I gained many different skills while farming and working with people of all ages. My mentors were supportive and guided me, but as the internship progressed I was given more responsibility and felt trusted to lead volunteer groups as well as solo farming projects. I grew a lot as a leader during my time at the food project farm and built confidence while having fun with my mentors and various groups that came to work on the farm. Overall, I am very thankful for this experience and while at times exhausting, it was the best kind of exhausting. I can't wait to farm again in the future!

Environmental Education Intern

May - August 2019 • Boulder, CO

What I liked

Boulder was an awesome place to live and work! Growing Gardens has a beautiful view of the mountains. Fellow interns were wonderful! Great mission to teach people about healthy, locally grown food.

What I wish was different

We were very understaffed, the job was a full-time summer camp counselor job and not what I would call an “internship.” It’s very hard to live in Boulder and make less than minimum wage. Management was condescending, critical, and the intern supervisor was appallingly unprofessional and cruel to me after I worked my butt off all summer for this place! I wish that this internship had been as dynamic and flexible as advertised.. it ended up being a really negative and toxic experience for me. The only workplace I’ve ever felt mistreated by!
