It’s a very hands on job that teaches you a lot about animal handling, habitats, animal behavior and animal nutrition.

This is a big time commitment so make sure you’re able to create some kind of balance.

Bird Nursery
May - September 2019 • Longmont, CO
What I liked
I got to work hands on with orphaned or injured animals from small birds to ducks and geese to squirrels. It was a lot of fun and rewarding
What I wish was different
I did wish I got paid for the amount of hours I put in
Advice
Allow time, not only for the internship, but for recovering. The internship on top of a job was very fun but very exhausting. Rest is important

Intern
July - August 2019 • Longmont, CO
What I liked
All of the hands on experience and the great mentors
What I wish was different
It got a little slow toward the end of the internship because there were more interns working than were needed
Advice
Definitely would recommend to students even if you don't have an interest in wildlife. I did this internship to try to step out of my comfort zone and ended up learning a lot and really enjoying it.
