Greening Youth Intern - San Juan National Forest Service - Timber
June - August 2020 • Durango, CO
What I liked
I enjoyed getting outside everyday and learning a whole new world all about the trees in the San Juan National Forest. I also was happy to have days where I got to assist employees in other fields, such as hydrology and wildlife.
What I wish was different
I wish I were able to see more of the forest and branch out more, but overall it was great.
Advice
I highly recommend going to bed early and staying hydrated, there are some rigorous days outside in the heat.

Wildlife Intern
May - July 2019 • Twentynine Palms, CA
What I liked
Nice working environment. Project-based work. Understandimg and personable bosses.
What I wish was different
That I could have stayed longer and brought my co-workers back to my institution.
Advice
Just because it doesn't "fit" with your major, course path, or doesn't sound a certain way; does not mean it will not be a life changing experience and essential to your career trajectory. Explore all of your interests as early as you can so you don't be unsatisfied or bored after graduation.
