I loved the work environment and the people. Everyone was very willing to help me understand and let me help out on their important, real work.
What I wish was different
I wasn't able to go into the office more than twice in 3 months, so I wish I could've gone into the office more. However, I am hoping to work there again this coming summer and I hope that we will be in person at that time.
Advice
One piece of advice I received before starting this work was to try my best, always ask for more things to do, and how you can help. One thing I had to do was practice confidence. You might not feel like you know what you're doing or how to do it but you may surprise yourself. You have to believe in yourself.

Business Analyst Intern
May - August 2021 • Cincinnati, OH
What I liked
GA gave me the opportunity to develop insightful projects and I had purpose while there. I can say this speaking for friends who have had other internships elsewhere - GA fosters a great environment for growth, personal development, networking, and learning.
What I wish was different
Nothing, other than being in person rather than virtual.
Advice
I would recommend you come in ready to learn and do not be afraid to ask questions.

Predictive Analytics Intern

What I liked
GA invests a lot in their interns. They hosted many intern events and to encourage us to learn more about the field of insurance and about the many positions within the company. I felt very welcomed there.
What I wish was different
I wish I was comfortable reaching out to more people early and often throughout my internship. I am now seeing people who I never added on LinkedIn and I wonder if it’s too late to do so.
Advice
Actuarial sciences and insurance, in general, is a vast and deeply interesting field. If one aspect of it does not interest you, there are so many other paths you may find appealing.

Project Management Intern
June 2019 • Cincinnati, OH
What I liked
Having a lot of freedom. My managers would have a lot of data in the form of Excel and PDF's, and I would have the freedom to look through the data and find whatever I could. It was very helpful in continuing my education when it comes to work, as well as Excel.
What I wish was different
Nothing. I had flexible hours, great pay, and a great support system.
Advice
Go and apply everywhere. I found this job by applying to another job, and a recruiter hired me just by looking at my resume.

Non-Trucking Liability Claims Intern
May - July 2018 • Cincinnati, OH
What I liked
The team of claim representatives I absolutely loved. They made me feel part of their group, were incredibly friendly, and shared my sense of humor. There was never a dull moment in the office because someone was always teasing someone else. Most of the work I did independently which I thrived at; but my coworkers were always more than happy to answer questions.
What I wish was different
I honestly really enjoyed this program because it had a mix of everything that I was looking for out of an internship. Therefore, there is not a whole lot that I would change about it. I would recommend working for this company to any of my friends. The work I was doing was a lot more interesting and fun than I thought it would be.
Advice
If you don't have something to do, just go ask for a task! I was under the impression that I was going to be given tasks to do and if I wasn't given anything then that meant they didn't have anything for me to do. There was one week where I didn't do any work and just listened to podcasts because nothing was in my work basket. The following week I asked my mentor for tasks to work on and that is what I really should have been doing all along.

Risk Management and Insurance Intern
June - August 2018 • Cincinnati, OH
What I liked
I enjoyed getting first hand experience underwriting nonprofits. I had the opportunity to underwrite both new business and renewals for several different classes of business. Throughout the summer there were several different networking opportunities that allowed me to learn more about the company during my internship. I also got to work on a special project that expanded my knowledge of coverage forms and the religious organization class of business.
What I wish was different
Nothing!
Advice
My advice would be to take advantage of all the networking opportunities available and to ask questions!!
