I strongly believe everyone should do things that challenge them and force them to grow. If you're not sure what that looks like for you - there's a pretty good chance wildland firefighting will check both of those boxes (and so many more). It's the experience of a lifetime and one that cannot be simulated.

What I liked
I loved working in the forest on a daily basis. The work was extremely rewarding and I met a bunch of great people.
What I wish was different
The management of Grayback forestry is not the best. It is a great job to get your foot in the door, but the ceiling is very low for promotions.
Advice
Be ready for hard work.

What I liked
It was an amazing challenge and really honed my teamwork and communication skills.
What I wish was different
I wish I had been a little more prepared physically and mentally.
Advice
It is worth it to stick it out through the summer. The start will be very tough but you build great relationships and learn a lot about your own limits.
