I enjoyed GAO's positive work environment and work-life balance. My teammates were friendly and willing to introduce me to and guide me through topics I was unfamiliar with. They encouraged me to branch out and make connections. My supervisor was a model team leader who challenged me to complete several high-quality products and encouraged me as well. Overall, I enjoyed the opportunity to intern with GAO very much.
What I wish was different
My only regret is that I didn't network with those inside and outside my team more often.
Advice
Network! Meet with coworkers inside and out of your immediate team and ask about their experience. Ask questions and seek their advice about possible career choices. As my supervisor would say, communicate, collaborate, and coordinate!

What I liked
I really appreciated being treated as a peer and a valued member of the team. From the first day, the team gives you responsibilities that have a tangible impact on the project, and it was rewarding to work on such meaningful and engaging assignments. As a member of the Natural Resources and Environment team, I enjoyed the emphasis on collaboration and teamwork, and appreciated my team's approachability and inclusivity. Working at GAO, you're surrounded by really smart, driven people who are dedicated to making government more transparent and efficient.
What I wish was different
I wish I could've stayed longer!
Advice
Take every opportunity your team offers you. You might be uncomfortable or unfamiliar with some situations, but it shows that you're willing to challenge yourself and that's truly when you learn the most.

What I liked
Interning at the GAO, I was surrounded by extremely smart and resourceful people who shared my passion for public policy. Placed in the Education, Workforce, and Income Security team, I got to work on meaningful projects with clear relevance to the legislative process and the policy debate. Seeing the real-world impact of my research was extremely rewarding. I also loved being in DC and experiencing such a politically engaged city.
