Glendale Community College

Stem internship program

January - May 2024 • Glendale, AZ

What I liked

This was great for getting teaching experience and if you want to become a teacher. You get to teach a couple of college level lectures and receive excellent feedback from your faculty mentor.

What I wish was different

The people running the internship have failed to pay the final internship stipend check after at least six weeks of the final internship day. Although the money isn't the entire reason to do this internship, the lack of communication and confusion on how to pay the final check and when/if the final check is coming has been extremely frustrating.

Advice

If you are taking this internship over another job for not only the excellent teaching experience but also with the paid incentive, make sure they have resolved the issues that prevented the first round of interns from being paid in a timely manner.

Academic Advisement

May 2018 - July 2019 • Glendale, AZ

What I liked

I enjoyed every minute of it. I learned so much, I also got to meet and work with amazing people. Helping students easily became a passion for which I wish I can continue to do. I wanted to be the advisor I personally needed, which turned out to be exactly what my students were looking for.

What I wish was different

I wish I could've stayed longer as a full-time employee. I wish I could've been able to help even more students reach their goals.

Advice

Always try learning new things. Stay active and motivated. Be positive and enjoy the job you do.
