Sales Clerk

July 2020 • Moon Township, PA

What I liked

I like the flexibility in hours since I worked part-time as a college student and the atmosphere is welcoming mostly.

What I wish was different

I don't necessarily think there is anything that could be different other than maybe raises in wage for people because there are people who work there that rely on their jobs as the only household income. So, them earning a livable and sustainable wage is important.

Advice

Make sure you keep everything sanitized and help out customers the best you can not only for the "awards" they hand out but also to be kind to customers.

Customer Service Representative

August 2016 - September 2019 • Richfield, OH

What I liked

I really enjoyed the fast-paced atmosphere. It helped me with my communication skills especially! I liked that I always had something to do - I was never bored!

What I wish was different

I wish the management was a little better - even though I did a lot of work outside of my job description, I was never recognized for my hard work. After leaving my job, some of the management didn't seem to care I was leaving.

Advice

I would say that everyone should try to work in customer service at some point in their career. No matter what work path someone decides to take, they will be working with people. By being in customer service, employees will be better in handling issues related to their work place.

Produce Clerk

July 2014 • Cleveland, OH

What I liked

Many co-workers are friendly and open to conversation that helps put the mind at ease after dealing with a lot of work related stress. The work itself may be physically strenuous but often is not difficult to understand. For a person getting their first job or getting a job with minimal work experience, Giant Eagle is a good place to start building your resume. The schedules are decently flexible, being open to accommodations as long as they are made a decent amount of time in advanced, and the pay is weekly.

What I wish was different

Often I feel my department is understaffed. There have been several occasions where my co-worker would be taken from his current position in Produce and moved to work as a Cashier in the middle of his shift, putting our department behind and leaving our boss stressed and irritable. The work expected in comparison to the amount of people working is often overwhelming. I normally work alone which I've grown accustomed to, but one man can only do so much by themselves. Working at Giant Eagle you have to be able to work and not let yourself be overcome by the stress of all that needs to be done.

Advice

It is best that whatever department you work in, you make an effort to get along with your co-workers. A customer can ruin your day but you may never see them again, but a co-worker can ruin your day and you have to see them again the very next day. If problems occur with a co-worker try to dispute them in a professional manner. If complications continue, consider asking upper management for a sit-down between the both of you, or if possible request a switch to another department within the store. Teamwork is very important to make the day go smoothly, the work itself is already tiring enough, don't let drama with other co-workers add to the burden.
