Digital Content Manager

What I liked

Working in New Student and Family Programs was one of the greatest work experiences I've had at Mason. Tasks were delegated to me, but I also had a lot of autonomy when it came to projects and collaborative work. If you love online marketing or graphic design this job is a great job for you.

What I wish was different

Though some things were collaborative, many times I had solo projects. This wasn't a problem for me because I prefer to work alone, but teamwork is a skill that should've been utilized more than it was.

Advice

Be proactive with your work. Its easy to get behind if you're not doing constant research for new material. Also, before you ask for help, try to solve problems on your own. You may learn something!

What I liked

The position challenged me immensely, and helped me develop my skills in leadership, organization, and communication. I was able to work with some other amazingly passionate individuals, and was constantly motivated by their burning enthusiasm.

What I wish was different

Nothing at all!

Advice

It's hard work, but it's all going to be worth it in the end. You'll come out of it with new skills that'll prepare you for any career path you choose.

What I liked

I had so much fun! Training for the job began during the spring semester and I got to build such strong friendships with my teammates, both professional and student. Also it was really fun to be able to interact with so many students from the incoming class!

What I wish was different

I wish the overnight freshmen weren’t staying so far away from where we were staying - it made being an overnight PL even more demanding because we couldn’t sleep until late and then still had to wake up super early to get across campus, get ready, and be in Holten Plaza in time for work.

Advice

Be yourself! It was so much fun, and even though the hours are pretty demanding you’ll get to make connections with so many people and the lessons I’ve learned are helpful in so many ways outside of the job!

Student Coordinator

August 2017 • Fairfax, VA

What I liked

The ability to garner a variety of skills that are useful for me in the future.

What I wish was different

Communication had been a bit more effective, espeically communication on what we, as StuCo were suppose to say to the PLs.

Advice

This isn't a position you can prepare for, with this job, you do almost every task under the sun. The person who takes this position needs to be ready to do a variety of tasks, and push themselves outside of their comfort zone.
