Gensco

Corporate Operations Intern

June - August 2019 • Tacoma, WA

What I liked

Very friendly work environment. My coworkers were both extremely friendly and helpful

What I wish was different

There was a fair amount of down time while I was working on my project. I would reach a point where I made as much progress as I could on my project, but because the team was very busy, it would sometimes take a while before I could get the necessary feedback on what direction they wanted me to take the project.

Advice

Take the initiative when it comes to projects. The team at Gensco very much appreciate interns who are looking to take on new tasks and who try to find new ways to approach problems.

What I liked

I loved the company culture and environment. I was surrounded by team members that aided me in my learning curve and helped guide me if I ever needed support. The people I worked with helped make my job both an educational and enjoyable experience.

What I wish was different

I wish there would have been more assigned projects throughout the summer. Sometimes I found myself working faster than what Gensco could throw at me. They had a map of what my schedule looked like, but I found myself working ahead of what they had planned, and had to ask other department managers if I could help them out in any way.

Advice

I would advise anyone to have an open mind and ask questions whenever you encounter a problem. I had to learn Gensco's entire database from the inside out without any training prior. Allowing yourself grace in the process and reaching out to others helped me the most.
