Genie, a Terex Brand

Lean Manufacturing Intern

August - November 2020 • Moses Lake, WA

What I liked

I felt like I was given a lot of freedom with the engineering design I was assigned to do, and that I learned a lot about real world aplication

What I wish was different

I wish my supervisor gave me more direction with my project. I felt a little lost at times during my internship and not sure what to do.

Advice

Be proactive, and don't be afraid to ask a ton of questions.

Manufacturing Engineering Intern

June - August 2020 • Redmond, WA

What I liked

The people I worked with were so nice and answered all my questions; it really felt like they were there to help me learn. I also really liked the university recruiter who was in charge of the intern program, she really worked to make our internships (during the pandemic) as hands-on and practical as possible.

What I wish was different

I wish I was able to see more teams within Genie while I was there.

Advice

Start looking for internships early, and DEFINITELY go to the SWE Evening with Industry if possible. That is how I met the recruiter from Genie and made that initial connection. The next day at the Career Fair, I gave the recruiter my resume and got an interview the very next day. Also, just being able to talk to people (outside of what is on your resume) is very important!

Financial Analyst Intern

May - August 2019 • Redmond, WA

What I liked

The company was large and structured but still had a "mom and pop" feel to it. The management structure was very flat, making executives accessible. The project that I worked on was meaningful and value adding. The weekly intern activities were educational and engageing.

What I wish was different

The on-boarding process was a little bit difficult. The project could have been more structured.

Advice

The experience and network that you gain in these professional settings is far more valuable than the hourly wage that you receive.
