Software Engineer Intern

June - August 2023 • Taunton, MA

What I liked

I enjoyed working on real programming projects

What I wish was different

Would have rather it been an in person internship with more human to human interaction

Advice

I would definitely do an in person internship, especially as an entry level employee

Software Systems Engineer

January - August 2020 • Pittsfield, MA

What I liked

Everyone is very friendly! Lots of heads-down work, but when it comes time to collaborate teams are productive and fun. Everyone is great about answering questions too. Every other Friday off and good pay, and lots of opportunities to pursue whatever work and projects you are interested in or take courses and training!

What I wish was different

I wish I had asked for feedback and advice earlier on. Work with my team and program was interesting and engaging but I wish there had been more intern events and opportunities to work and meet with other interns

Advice

Ask connections to tell you about the company's history and facilities

GD was a wonderful place to work. The people in particular were great to work with, and made a great environment.

ASIC/FPGA Intern

March 2018 • Scottsdale, AZ

What I liked

I enjoyed most of the experience. It was interesting and very useful to get hands on training and work on an actual project being shipped to customers. The hours were manageable and my manager was very willing to adjust my hours to reflect my schooling needs.

What I wish was different

I wish I had a wider variety of topics to work on. Since I was assigned to one project, I worked extensively within that project and didn't get to experience as much as I could have.

Advice

Go into the internship with a willingness to work hard and learn from your coworkers, and you will likely get an offer to return and continue your internship.

Software Engineer Intern

August 2018 • Huntsville, AL

What I liked

I work in an office with people who are very willing to help one another, and as an intern, this is extremely important. I get to work on real projects and make an impact like a full time engineer would.

What I wish was different

Nothing, I’m very happy with my experience.

Advice

Don’t be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone. As an intern, you’re expected to know little to nothing about the actual job you’re hired to do. It’s all about your will and ability to learn.
