What I liked

The Edison Engineering Development Program at GE Vernova has provided all of the resources professionally, academically, and socially that I could want post-graduation. I am surrounded by subject matter experts that cover a wide spectrum of engineering disciplines from mechanical, aero-thermal, advance manufacturing, and testing. I truly feel empowered to find where I am the happiest and the most empowered to drive real innovation.

What I wish was different

Advice

If you have the opportunity to work at GE Vernova take every networking opportunity you can! There are so many opportunities in a range of technical fields that might not find without taking the initiative!

Edison Engineering Development Program

What I liked

I really enjoyed the people I've worked with at GE. They are supportive and eager to help younger engineers develop. Being part of the Edison Program, I've gotten the chance to rotate between teams every 6 months, take part in graduate school, and gather visibility on the organization's purpose and goals. I loved the chance to work on meaningful projects that help contribute to giving all access to energy - a basic human right.

What I wish was different

I wish I had a better idea of all of the electrical engineering roles available prior to starting the program so I could've been more intentional on where I started first.

Advice

Leverage all of the different opportunities available at GE Vernova to create the career you want. GE Vernova has businesses in every stage of the power cycle - from generation with gas turbines to distribution with grid automation software. This creates for an endless variety of learning and knowledge to take in. For those passionate about power and energy - GE Vernova is the place for you.

I wish they gave us more monitored training specific to our role

Don’t be afraid to fail. You’ll be in a better situation failing and taking correction than waiting too long to get it right

Very challenging, did a lot of self learning but those around me were also very helpful in my learning process, worked with FEA and learned about solid state transformers

More women in the office, slightly more defined tasks

Be very communicative with your employer in an internship. They don’t always know what you’re looking for, so if you explicitly lay it out for them, they can do their best to help you reach your goals

What I liked

The people at GE is truly what has set it apart to other companies I have worked for. They are true to their company values and implement them on a day-to-day level. On every team you will find hardworking engineers that want to develop you in your career. They are purposeful in the projects they give you and always check in to make sure you're interested in what you're working on.

What I wish was different

Advice

Be open minded to different technologies and industries that you may have counted out before. I always thought I would only ever be interested in renewables, but since getting hired into the Gas Power organization, I've learned how vital gas turbines are to the energy transition. I never thought I would be passionate about a gas turbine, but here I am!

Process Engineer EID Intern

What I liked

I was assigned a few different projects and was able to work independently on them, but I was also given help when needed. These projects were relevant and I was able to actually see how I was making a difference in the plant.

What I wish was different

I wish my internship was longer. Obviously I could only go for 12 weeks because that was the whole summer, but it was one of the best experiences I have had and I wish it could have been longer.

Advice

Ask questions for things you do not understand. You are there to learn and asking questions is how you will learn a lot. Also, make meaningful relationships with the people you work with and work for. Those people can be important contacts when later networking for jobs, but it is nice to keep in touch with those people now and then, as well.
