My boss really cares, about his work, about me, about the progress of the legal services department. It is because of him that I now am a matriculated employee here. Overall, this is probably the best internship I could have asked for.
What I wish was different
I wish GMHC was less corporate but honestly that's what makes it an established and well-oiled nonprofit. I was just highly underprepared to work here, or at least underprepared for my interview and on-boarding when I became and employee after my internship.
Advice
If you can get an internship with a nonprofit, do it. Nonprofits are so understaffed that they rely on interns to do things that properly experienced people in your field would do. It's really great for experience on top of doing something that is worth something.
