What I liked

One thing I really liked about having an internship under an "umbrella" position like Business Operations intern is that I was able to get a completely holistic view of the business. I was also able to gain experience in every area of business such as: marketing, accounting, finance, human resources, management information systems, management, and entrepreneurship.

What I wish was different

Given all of the different roles I took on, the hours for this internship were a little skewed. Working directly under the owner of a small business and not working in an office setting means you have to be available nights and weekends as well. While you get a very realistic view of the time commitment - you must be flexible.

Advice

Be open to internships with companies a little different. I never expected to be able to intern for a salon and I'm so glad I ignored the standard of having an accounting internship in an office.
