I worked as a full time reporter and was able to get a feel for what working at a weekly paper is like. I covered a lot of events in the community (Edison Fields project, One Westfield Place controversy). I enjoyed going out into the community to report on stories and conduct interviews and wasn't just sitting at a desk all day.
What I wish was different
I wish I had been more involved/ learned more about laying out the print edition of the paper. I also wish I had a more active role with the newspaper's social media accounts.
Advice
Take initiative and don't be afraid to pitch stories or explore a lead!
