Futura Industries

Purchasing Intern

May - August 2019 • Clearfield, UT

What I liked

Company culture was great! The managers really look out for their employees. There is also a great feeling of independence that I got there. I felt that once I got a grip on what my various projects and assignments were, I didn't require much supervision and could do things how I wanted to do them.

What I wish was different

This might be different just because my major was a relatively unique one compared to the rest of the interns I was with, but I did wish I had more raw stats experience there. As a stats major, I hardly ever did any number crunching or statistical work. I greatly appreciated the work experience, and the work itself was entertaining, but not towards what I hope to do long term.

Advice

There is a lot of work experience that you can find in showing how a company runs and functions. In addition to the specific tasks you will do, look for the broader side of things and find what you want out of a company in terms of both a workplace and company culture. Futura is a great model for that.

Lean Engineering Intern

May - August 2019 • Clearfield, UT

What I liked

Futura has a good company with good people. They have great benefits, even for interns, such as their gym, access to their healthcare clinic, access to their physical therapist, and access to their psychologist. All of these things are free! Futura does a great job of helping their interns feel successful. Also, the plant floor employees always smiled and waved at me. I really got to be at a home away from home.

What I wish was different

I wish I had gained more technical experience. I feel like I spent lots of time with technical writing and presentations, but not enough technical projects. This was probably because of my role more as a Lean Intern though, and not as a intern at Futura.
