What I liked

When I join FJWL/LIL as their HR Assistant, I didn't have any experiences to help me navigate the leadership development work we're doing. I was so grateful to my supervisor for mentoring me through 1:1 trainings and taking the time to teach me various ways to contribute to the mission.

What I wish was different

While HR allowed me to meet with many different people, it also gave me insight into what a recruiter looks at when they screen resumes as well as people. HR can be a meticulous career path, but I had lots of support from my team which helped me bring on wonderful people to our team.

Advice

My time at FJWL/LIL has fine-tuned my soft skills to prepare me for other work environments, skills such as honest communication, accountability, efficient time-management, and being mindful to take care of yourself, as self-care is how you take your power back.

What I liked

I liked the environment. Everyone at the company was nice but also made sure you were getting work done. If you needed assistance, someone was able to help. I also liked most of the work I did. Calling and emailing people with questions allowed me to establish a rapport and make a difference in their lives.
