I loved having the hands on experience in a fun and hardworking environment. This internship helped to shape what I want to do as a career and reinforced my love for social work and psychology. I worked with a diverse group of hardworking people who loved their jobs and cared for all their kids like their own. Not to mention the leadership opportunities I had the whole summer being able to come out of my comfort zone, grow in my field of study, and learn so much from my enviorment.
What I wish was different
I wish I could have stayed longer!! I wish the work was a bit more organized throughout the summer but when working with kids it is hard to make that a possibility.
Advice
This job is for someone who is ready to dedicate most of their summer to kids who don't have the best home lives. This job is for someone passionate about social work and or psychology field. You need to be able to take somewhat leadership role and you need to be prepared for difficult situations. As an intern at Fortress I learned so much about my career path and anyone willing to put in the work is going to love this opportunity.
