Administrative Assistant

May 2020 • Logan, UT

What I liked

I liked how busy I was at Forsgren Associates. I felt like I always had a different skill or a different project to work on. The engineers there are great mentors and are inclusive to interns. My experience included engineering work, technical writing/editing, administration tasks, and accounting processes.

What I wish was different

I was given the opportunity to learn Adobe InDesign later in the summer. This program helps assemble professional proposals and is a tool I had never considered prior to this internship. I wish I had been able to start helping with proposals earlier in the summer.

Advice

The Logan office is a branch of the main Salt Lake office. This meant we worked closely with people from Salt Lake on many different projects. I would recommend familiarizing the names with the roles as quickly as possible. Everyone is so willing to help and knowing who to ask, depending on the situation, makes a big difference.

Land Surveyor

May - August 2019 • Rexburg, ID

What I liked

I got to work outside almost every single day. I got to go to places I have never been to and see new things. I got to do new things that I hadn't done as well

What I wish was different

Something that I wish was different was, I wish I could've been involved in more than what I could do. Even if it was just to watch how to do it.

Advice

Expect to be outside no matter what the weather is. If it's raining, you are still going to go outside and do the job no matter how hard it is. No matter how cold or hot it is. You will be outside getting the job done.

Civil Engineering Intern

April - September 2019 • Rexburg, ID

What I liked

Everyone I worked with was friendly, helpful, and taught me a lot. I also liked that I was able to visit parts of Idaho I had never been before. I was trained well enough to feel confident in my abilities as a materials tester throughout my internship. If I had questions, I always had someone I could ask.

What I wish was different

I wish I had more opportunities to work more closely with the engineers.

Advice

Take advantage of every opportunity you can by working hard and learning as much as possible.
