Foley Hoag LLP

Case Assistant

January 2018 • Boston, MA

What I liked

It’s a challenging job, but I get to see what I’d be like to come back as an associate. I get face time with many important people, and it makes me feel like I’m actually part of the legal team.

What I wish was different

I work in patent prosecution now, and maybe it’d be better if I was in a different department. Patent prosecution is very technical and confusing even if you’ve been doing it for a while.

Advice

If you don’t get the job you want the first time, apply again next year. That’s what I did. Also, there’s so much you can learn from coworkers. Remember, at the end of the internship or job you’ll probably be there anywhere from 3 months to 2 years. Many of these people have been doing this for twenty years. Believe them when they talk.

What I liked

I liked how flexible this position was because I was able to do another job at the same time. My supervisor was also very kind and it was a great experience to work there. I learned a lot about legal work and how a law firm functions cohesively.
