Mechanical Engineering Intern

May - August 2023 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

The people were extremely friendly and very helpful to work with. They partnered the interns with a mentor who were all very helpful and it was a great relationship between all the interns and mentors. The work included joining individual teams and separate intern led projects. Our intern projects are now in further developments in the company, and we were able to have concrete contributions to the teams we contributed to. The leadership is very involved as well and very friendly. I found myself talking to the President and Director of Engineering a few times. It was a very low-stress work environment, expectations were very clear and people wanted to help you. There were a lot of social events within the entire office and separate intern outings including a Cubs game and "Monday Fun-days". I did a lot of work in SolidWorks, and they have the manufacturing on site so we were able to see the actual machines creating parts and the entire back end process.

What I wish was different

Nothing

Advice

Talk to as many people as possible while you're there. There are a lot of people doing many different things close by so you can easily get a whole view of the business and different roles if you reach out.

Software Engineer Intern

December 2016 - January 2017 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

Company is well organized and friendly to all employees. Hard work is appreciated regardless of background. Employees are free to talk directly to top management without borders in the way.

What I wish was different

Nothing. Internship was perfect.

Advice

Do not listen to music while working. As most young people nowadays, music is a huge distraction and causes work to decline. I noticed that no one in the top management listened to music while working and they expected their employees to do the same even though it's not required to.
