Credit Analyst Intern

June 2020 • Greeley, CO

What I liked

FMS Bank provided me with a fulfilling summer experience that allowed me to gain a wealth of knowledge of the banking industry. What I loved most about this position was the ability to work with many different entity types. Since a lot of the role deals with data analytics and analyzing small businesses, it was unique to be able to see multiple industries and the complexities that come with each. The FMS team is wonderfully pleasant and inclusive. With less than 50 employees company-wide, FMS provides a real opportunity to connect with all different departments along with upper management. Apart from business operations, my supervisors at FMS also mentored me on my personal and professional future. I'd highly recommend Fort Morgan State Bank to anyone interested in financial analytics or alike.

What I wish was different

There's not much i would change about my experience. Management consistently checked in with me throughout the summer to see if there was anything they could improve or change.

Advice

Even if banking, or specifically community banking, does not fit your interests for your career path, I'd encourage you to consider all of the different industry exposure that comes with working at a bank.

Financial Intern

June - August 2019 • Greeley, CO

What I liked

I was an intern for FMS Bank this past summer of 2019 at the Greeley, CO branch. My days consisted of shadowing and aiding the President, CEO, CFO, loan officers, tellers and the mortgage department with their own day-to-day job requirements. I used skills in financial analysis to create data configurations and reports relating to student and SBA loans, as well as projections for 401k plans. On multiple occasions I interacted with bank clients pertaining to loan agreements and closings. This experience was eye opening to say the least. A large portion of my time at FMS Bank was shadowing James Smith, the President of the bank, and working a great deal with loan officers such as R.J. Martinez. I can gladly say that every single employee at FMS immediately accepted me as a team member and it truly felt like a family. I learned more than expected and left with life time connections and lessons. I highly recommend working for or interning with the FMS Bank family.

What I wish was different

Again this internship exceeded my expectations and I cannot currently think of any issues or things I would have changed about my experience.

Advice

If you are looking to FMS Bank for an internship I would recommend that you are at the junior or senior level of classes in a finance, accounting, economics, or banking degree. Ultimately, be ready to be a sponge and absorb from day one.
