Finance Intern - FP&A

June - August 2019 • Dallas, TX

What I liked

The best part about my internship program at Flowserve was meeting and working with the people there. The upper management actually showed interest and cared about the internship program. It was also a great opportunity to learn more about industrial engineering / manufacturing, and the specific products Flowserve focuses on producing as a company. It was also a great opportunity to get familiar with the general structure and day to day activities as an analyst in a corporate finance setting.

What I wish was different

This was the first time there had been a formal internship program, and I didn't have any major complaints. Perhaps more of a rotational element to the program would have increased exposure to multiple different business functions.

Advice

If you are interested in corporate finance for a large, global entity and/or interested in manufacturing, industrial engineering, or the oil, gas, and energy sector, the internship at Flowserve is a great opportunity to look into.

Database Administration Intern

June 2018 • Taneytown, MD

What I liked

Everyone here is laid back and professional. No drama, and everyone is treated as equals. They implement future positive ideas from every employee and encourage it.

What I wish was different

I wish there was more of a tech presence. Unfortunately they are not leading in that area, but they are becoming more updated every day.

Advice

Not all companies seem what t hey are online. The way this company talked about what they needed, I thought I would be a little fish in a big pond. However, I realized they were far behind in technology and I helped them more than I ever thought I could. I would say do not get caught up with the job boards description and big words. Most companies use outside sources to bring in the people they want.

Engineering Intern

March 2017 • Kalamazoo, MI

What I liked

The mechanical seal industry is a very interesting and important industry that I had never heard of until starting. The Kalamazoo location is a manufacturing, repair, and engineering facility, which offered me a large range of exposure to numerous engineering roles. I was able to rotate through 3 different engineering divisions, each with their own scope of product.

What I wish was different

I wish the departments had more specific projects for the interns to work on and finish by the end of their rotation. Sometimes, there was a lull in work load that made me feel stagnant.

Advice

Embrace the social nature of the engineers here. Don't be afraid to go out with them after work and make friends with them.
